This is a MacConkey agar plate culture of Enterobacter sakazakii after 24 hours of growth at 36° C.
Enterobacter sakazakii, a gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium, is from the family Enterobacteriaceae. E. sakazakii is associated with a rare, but often fatal form of neonatal meningitis with a mortality rate of 40 to 80 per cent.
